Dr. Joseph V. Scelsa, the President of The Italian American Museum, is an expert in Italian-American affairs, including Italian-American Civil Rights. He is active in numerous Italian-American organizations, e.g., the Columbia Club, Regional Board of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF), etc. As an author and editor, Dr. Scelsa has written various articles and reports on ethnicity, pluralism and education. In 1997, Dr. Scelsa contributed to an essay entitled, "The 80th Street Mafia" in the National Italian American Foundation's newly published book, "Beyond the Godfather", in which 23 Italian American writers share their real life experiences.


About the Museum

The Italian American Museum is dedicated to exploring the rich cultural heritage of Italy and Italian Americans by presenting the individual and collective struggles and achievements of Italians and their heirs to the American way of life. By collecting, preserving, and interpreting tangible objects and reminiscences, the Italian American Museum displays notable contributions of Italians and Italian Americans to American culture. The Italian American Museum is a cultural and educational institution promoting constructive pluralism by educating Americans to the heritage of Italian Americans and their European roots, values, language, and traditions.
