Ever feel stressed during your travel journeys? We all do sometimes. Just in time for the holidays, two experts tell listeners how they can find "peace of mind" and avoid stress while traveling. Eve Delechartre, a therapeutic yoga teacher, describes deep breathing techniques and exercises, while Dr. Jeffrey Rudolph, a psychologist, gives tips on how to keep your emotions in balance during your vacation.
1. Remember to breathe deeply every time you encounter a stressful situation.
2. Notice how your body feels. In that way you can connect with areas of tension and you will be able to choose to do something to release it. Gentle movements are mostly helpful.
3. When you feel tense or stressed mentally, your body will manifest the tension. If you start moving your body gently while breathing deeply, there is a greater chance that the tension will be released both physically and mentally.
4. Find something to be grateful about in the present moment because every moment of the journey IS the journey.
5. When you travel to areas of the world you are visiting for the first time or to places you are revisiting, you may feel excitement or many other emotions that can be experienced internally when you learn about body, mind and heart connection. Allow that to happen. Enjoy … In-Joy!
Travel Tips For a Stress Controlled Vacation
1. Less is more
It's quality, not quantity. The eager traveler always overplans and ends up frustrated because he or she should have done it all. Vacation memories come from relaxed experiences, not hassled moments.
2. Negotiate, don't dictate.
It's far better to compromise than to control the agenda with your travel companion. Often, their suggestions can pleasantly expand your horizons and make for a more agreeable partner.
3. Listen to your biological clock.
Change in your daily routine (even through a vacation) is often stressful. Rather than hit the ground running, take time to unpack, take a nap and review your itinerary. Don't skip meals, and hydrate your body often.
4. Don't trap yourself through commitment to friends and relatives.
Visiting friends and relatives as part of your vacation plans can feel or be perceived as a contricting trap, particularly when you relish the freedom to explore on your own...set modest expectations about visiting.
5. Periodically relax to replenish your batteries.
Know yourself, and know what works best for you. Whether it be yoga, a run, tv or a good book, each day requires time for yourself.
