Explore traffic, infrastructure, bridges, including bridges that can be "interrogated" remotely on their condition, etc., with Samuel I. Schwartz, a.k.a., Gridlock Sam. How come America spends so little on its infrastructure? Can bikes and cars get along? Can people, trucks, cars, bikes, trains live happily together? How did Sam save the Williamsburg Bridge? What is traffic calming?

Sam Schwartz Engineering


As President and CEO of Sam Schwartz Engineering (SSE), Mr. Schwartz, a Professional Engineer, (P.E.), founded and runs a multi-disciplinary consulting firm specializing in traffic and transportation engineering. An expert in the field of traffic engineering and safety and transportation planning, he specializes in developing urban traffic programs utilizing his expert knowledge in traffic demand management, transit systems management, traffic calming, transportation planning and engineering. A widely respected nationally and internationally authority for his congestion relief strategies, Mr. Schwartz coined the term "gridlock". He possesses an intimate knowledge of the New York region, including the infrastructure, traffic patterns, neighborhoods, elected officials and agencies. The corporate headquarters of SSE are in New York, with offices in Chicago, Newark, Tampa, Washington, D.C., and Windsor, Canada. Sam holds a Bachelor of Science, (B.S.) in Physics from Brooklyn College and a Masters in Civil Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Andrew H. Lee is an Associate Curator at New York University and a Librarian for History, European Studies, Iberian Studies, Soccer & Politics. Andrew has a Master in Art, (M.A.), from Columbia University in the City of New York, a Master of Library and Information Science, (M.L.I.S), from The University of Texas at Austin, and a Bachelor of Arts, (B.A.), also from The University of Texas at Austin.
