September 18: Open Lighthouse Day in Maine
The Coast Guard will partner with the Maine Office of Tourism and the American
Lighthouse Foundation to present the largest event of its kind in the country. While all
Maine lighthouses cannot be opened to the public for safety and accessibility reasons,
the 25 ocean, river, and island lighthouses that will be open on this occasion offer a rare
view of these iconic structures that have helped make its picturesque coastline legendary.

September 19-October 3: Two hundredth Anniversary Celebration of Oktoberfest in
Munich, Germany
Sorry, Denver, but this is the world’s largest Octoberfest. Beer tents and fairground

TANZACAT 2010 Open: September 23-October 2
Sixty catamarans, manned by over one hundred sailors, are expected to compete in
ten Olympic Courses races in the largest open-class catamaran event in Africa. From
September 23 26, the Bay Regatta will rake place in the warm tropical waters of the
Msasani [stet] Bay in Dar es Salaam. During the Zanzibar Raid from September 28 to
October 2, the catamarans will race across the Indian Ocean to the legendary spice island
of Zanzibar. Competing in or watching the TANZACAT 2010 Open is a great addition to
a Tanzanian safari adventure.

September 25: GLOW, Santa Monica’s Biennial All-Night Fall Festival
In 2008 more than 200,000 people thronged Santa Monica beach to enjoy an almost-
all-night festival of exhibits from local, national, and international artists. More are
expected this year to enjoy 25 installations around Santa Monica State Beach and
surrounding areas. Open to the public and free from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., GLOW
will feature original commissions by artists from around the world who re-imagine
Santa Monica Beach as a playground for thoughtful and participatory artworks.
Summer 2010 onwards: London Cycle Hire
From summer 2010 The Mayor of London and Transport for London will set up and operate a London Cycle Hire scheme. Bicycles will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The London Cycle Hire scheme will help to alleviate congestion on the Tube and buses in London. The program will launch with 6,000 hire bicycles based in the nine London boroughs and several Royal Parks that make up London's zone one travel area, and are expected to generate around 40,000 extra cycle trips a day in central London. Experience Denver Botanic Gardens (DBG) landmark, open-air exhibition of monumental works by the internationally renowned sculptor, Henry Moore.
